I found a recipe to make paint that is completely non toxic for kids, although I cannot guarantee the same for clothing so as usual, make sure they are wearing either "play" clothes as I call them or something over their good clothes.
During the summer this year, I am having my kids make an art book that represents their summer this year and what they did. This not only inspires their creativity to come shining through, but for younger kids, it teaches them about colors and numbers; for older kids, you can have them practice their measurements and fractions or decimals.
So, on that note, lets get messy!!!!!

Ingredients:
- 1 tbsp flour
- 1 tbsp salt
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 2 tbsp & 1 or 2 tsp of water
- food coloring
- Mix everything together until smooth.
- Apply paint to sheets of sturdy card stock using brushes or q-tips. (If they want to do finger painting, I suggest having the artist wear disposable gloves so the food coloring doesn't stain their skin too badly)
- Microwave the finished "Mona Lisa" like work for 20 seconds. If still not dry then keep heating 10 seconds at a time until it does. This will also "puff" the paint.
