Well, when you think of mood disorders, a vision of the Joker may pop into your head, or a hospital with straight jackets maybe?
Right now, my ASD child, his father and I are sitting in a behavioral and mental health facility waiting for them to see my son.
The unexpected happened. Or at least unexpected to others since most don't know about his mood disorder and because they cannot see it physically , it's hard to see it at all.
The way some of these issues act, is they lay dormant for a while. Then, something "triggers" it and it comes to the surface. It can present in various ways. It can happen to children and adults without prejudice even.
So, as I'm sitting here waiting, a friend messages me asking what this place is and why I would be here with my son. Meanwhile, they know he has a mood disorder diagnosed on top of autism and he's at the age where puberty starts.
This post is just meant to be a reminder that anything is possible and to have an open mind and heart when or if you hear someone is getting help.
Be kind and smile at everyone; it could be the one thing that makes the difference in someone's life.
