This is our new family member, Belle. As many of you know, I'm a HUGE animal activist. I love helping and we do a bunch of fostering in our house.
Well, I was at the shelter looking for a furry mate to call my own after a few months ago we had to let my Ladybug cross the Rainbow Bridge due to a neurological condition took her. My husband noticed this hyper bouncing puppy in the window up on top. (Que the old song!) Well, I look down and saw this little girl....She was in the back of the cage, shaking & terrified. It was at that moment, I knew she was the one I had to have. My husband said to keep looking and to look at the other dogs there but I knew.
After walking the runs outside, I came back to her in the puppy room. I went to the desk and asked about her. They said she came in earlier as a stray and was on hold until Wednesday when she would be open for adoption. I told my husband, "We are coming back for her!"
So, that led to a call to a friend in the rescue business & an arranged meeting time on Wednesday. Next thing I know, I'm rearranging my doctor meetings and such, getting up early & planning out my day. I went to the pet store & picked out a pretty magenta collar that had little rhinestones on it for her with matching leash. I was all excited!
That morning I got up early, had my coffee, got dressed, got the husband up with the kids, got them ready and out the door. We got to the shelter 2 hours before they opened so that we were first in line and first in the door. I wanted to see her immediately! I walked in to her and she growled at first not remembering me obviously and was shaking like a leaf blowing in the blustery fall wind. I got down on my knees in front of her cage, spoke softly and opened it, placing my hand out gently while talking to her; she accepted my petting and lovings.
My fellow rescue friends met me up there promptly when the shelter opened up and we got her released into my custody. I just need to get her spayed within 30 days or a letter by a vet saying she already is. When they brought her out to me, she came straight to me, still shaking and unsure of what was going on but climbed straight into my lap when I went onto the ground on my knees for her. I placed her new collar on her with leash and hugged her tight. I picked her up so she didn't have to walk on the cold floor and grabbed her paperwork. We walked to our car and she met her new Daddy for the first time. She looked so happy! That's when we took the picture above.
Sweet Freedom! She is so happy here too. She's adjusted to the cats and other dogs nicely. She's got a warm bed with us every night, a fully belly every day, and lots of snuggles all day long.
